There are.......

all kinds of 2-way radios at all price levels.  Some people pay three hundred dollars and others pay three thousand dollars for a radio that performs the same function!  We all have brand preferences.  So why does one purchaser prefer a Chevrolet, another Ford, and yet another Toyota?

Others prefer an automobile because they started with a Ford or Chevy and they have just never seen a need to change.  Many of us started with Motorola 2-way radios.  The reason being that our government gave Motorola the exclusive contract to provide ALL civilian radios during World War II.  General Electric and RCA were major suppliers before the war.  After the war, the only company ready with a product for the public was you guessed it Motorola!  So most of us started with Motorola.

By the early sixties some significant changes began to evolve.  The big three (Motorola, GE, and RCA) started to feel the competition from a little company that produced the first transistor radio, and later developed scanner technology and low priced 2-way radios.  That company, Regency Communications, is the predecessor to what we know today as Relm Communications and they are still challenging the leader.  The Japanese have made major advances as well with companies such as ICOM, Kenwood, and Vertex being significant competitors.  RCA is gone, and what is left of GE is now called the MA-COM division of TYCO. Now things have come full circle.  Motorola is not only a leader in technology but affordability as well.  The CP series is our personal choice by Motorola.

The right radio for YOU!

Before sharing why we make certain suggestions relative to the type of equipment best suited for your individual needs, we should point out that we do not offer Amateur, CB or FRS radios.  There are several reasons for this.  Amateur radios are primarily sold by specialty retailers who are focused on serving the needs of amateur radio operators.  It is not that we don't have an understanding of these requirements (three of us are ham radio operators).  It is more a matter of serving a hobby market rather than a professional market.  There are others who have made a commitment to serving the amateur radio users and we applaud their efforts.  Relative to CB and FRS radios, we simply are not set up to adequately market these products.  Both are consumer products with the major sales being made by catalog merchandisers, discount stores, the Internet, scanner/CB dealers and truck stops.

Relative to GMRS, MURS, and Private Radio systems, we could offer virtually any brand and any price point desired.   After evaluating them all for the better part of a half century, we have concluded that the best interests of those we serve is best served by selling a single brand - Motorola!  This is not to say that Motorola is the least expensive.  Rarely is that the case.  However, on the basis of VALUE, nothing else even comes close!  The question is, just exactly how do you determine true value?

Motorola considers value to be one of the elements of what they call M7.  We will define value in a moment.  For now, we ask you only to consider that Motorola considers Value to be THE MOST IMPORTANT consideration in defining the suitability of a product to meet your needs. The considerations in order of importance are(1) Value, (2) Reliability, (3) Ease of Use, (4) Audio Quality, (5) Size and Weight, (6) Battery Life, and (7) Range.  For what it's worth, the order of consideration is almost the exact reverse of what most manufacturers advertise.  The first question generally asked (or answered) is price.  In reality, price is a part of value.  Low price does not necessarily represent value.  The second question is how far will it talk, or how many watts does it have?  Note that range comes in dead last in terms of the total long term satisfaction requirements defined by the Motorola M7 program.  Now, let's define value!

You can only have value if the product is properly suited for your requirements and it has all the elements of M7.  Once those requirements are met, we look at the components that make value.  They are (1) Pre-sale service, (2) Initial cost, (3) Cost of operation, (4) Minimal downtime, (5) Flexible acquisition plans, (6) Post sale service, and (7) Trade-in allowance at replacement time.  The fact is that you can purchase any radio you want from a variety of sources including local dealers, specialty retailers, mass merchandisers, mail order, directly from the manufacturer (in some cases), from distributors who sell to anyone possessing a credit card, and of course, the Internet.  Not all Motorola resellers are created equal. We can't speak for anyone other than ourselves.  What we can say, and do, is that we provide a level of Pre-Sale Service unmatched by anyone, anywhere - period!  We consider assisting those we work with as the foundation for developing a long term relationship.  The material you are now reading is an example of this commitment.

Initial Cost is obviously influenced by the measure of support given to the needs of the consumer.  Those who do not provide pre-sale service should be able to sell at a lower cost than one who does.  In reality, we have not found this to be true.  Our prices are often lower than those who sell on the basis of price alone.  Cost of Operation is what it costs to keep your equipment operating.  Even though you may have a manufacturer's warranty, that does not alter the fact that to take advantage of that warranty, you have to return the defective product to the manufacturer.  You pay for the cost of shipping, and you lose the use of the equipment while it is away.  We have a better way - we call it Next Day Exchange or N.D.E.    If you have a problem and you are covered by our optional N.D.E. service program, you just give us a call and we send you a replacement with call tags to pick up your defective unit.  You get a replacement radio the very next day and you pay NOTHING!  Is this worth something?  You bet it is!  Isn't it worth paying a little more for initial equipment cost to have the peace of mind in knowing that your cost of maintenance and downtime during the first year is ZERO?  We think it is!

If you need help in financing, we can offer some of the most creative alternates available anywhere.  If you need help after making your purchase, we are there for you, and when it comes time to trade your equipment for a newer model, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that no other communications product holds it's value like a Motorola!

PERSONAL 2-WAY RADIOS

The Motorola CP100 15 channel GMRS Radio

GMRS RADIOS

The Motorola CP100 is our choice for a GMRS Radio.  The CP100 has 56 internal preprogrammed UHF channels.  A choice of up to 15 of these channels can be programmed into a fixed list (switch selectable).  If desired you can have a mix of GMRS, FRS, or a choice of Color Dot* commercial frequencies (See below).  When operating on the color dot frequencies, this radio can be operated for business use IF you have applied for the proper FCC license.  Remember, you cannot conduct business on either GMRS or FRS channels.  The CP100 is an ideal choice for both personal and business use at reasonable cost.  Complete technical specifications are available at http://www.motorola.com/cgiss/docs/CP100_Accessories.pdf. This file requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing.  If you don't have a copy of the Reader, you can download a free copy at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html. For ease of viewing, we suggest that you change the viewing size to 150%.  With a power output of 2 watts, standard features include standard squelch, coded squelch, and digital squelch plus selectable call tones, internal Call tones and VOX.  The CP100 is MIL SPEC 810 approved (C, D, E, and F) plus IP54 Weatherproofing. The CP100 is supplied with a 1500 mAh memory free Nickel Metal-Hydride battery, 10 hour plug in charger, swivel belt holster, user guide, a one year factory warranty. Your on-line price is only - $203.

Color dot is the common term for a group of low-power  channels primarily used by handheld transceivers. This equipment (which needs to be FCC licensed in any of several radio services) is widely sold at general merchandise stores, as well as electronics, sporting goods, outdoors, auto supply dealers. The equipment is popular with the public for all manner of business and recreational communications. So as not to overload the consumer with confusing tech terminology, the operating channel may be specified in terms of a dot of color (i.e., a red dot on the radio means it operates on 151.625 MHz). Hence the term color dot, which has become generic for a large group of channels, although only certain selected ones are actually referred to by a specific color.  We thought it would be of interest to provide a listing of these VHF and UHF channels.

VHF High Band: 151.505, 151.625 (Red Dot), 151.70, 151.76, 151.82, 151.88, 151.94, 151.955 (Purple Dot), 154.54, 154.57 (Blue Dot), 154.60 (Green Dot), 158.40. MHz.

UHF Band: 464.50 (Brown Dot), 464.55 (Yellow Dot), 467.7625 (J Dot), 467.8125 (K Dot), 467.85 (Silver Star), 467.875 (Gold Star), 467.90 (Red Star), 467.925 (Blue Star), 469.50, 469.55 MHz.

The Motorola CP100 15 channel MURS radio

MURS RADIOS

The Motorola CP100 is also our choice for a MURS Radio.  As you will note, the MURS model is identical in appearance to the GMRS model.  The main difference is the operating frequency band.  The GMRS model operates in the 460-470 MHz band on preprogrammed (non-changeable) frequencies.  The MURS model operates in the VHF 151-154 MHz band on your choice of 27 preprogrammed frequencies with a maximum of 15 selectable.  Unlike GMRS, no license is required for MURS and also unlike GMRS, both personal and business use is allowed on MURS channels. The VHF CP100 also includes preprogrammed VHF color dot* business use channels (See above). Complete technical specifications are available at http://www.motorola.com/cgiss/docs/CP100_Accessories.pdf. This file requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing. Your on-line price is only - $185.

15 channel versions of the CP100  (See picture above) and accessories are available for both the GMRS and MURS models at our on-line store.  Deduct $35 from the above prices if you prefer the single channel model.  Y
